What does I.C mean on crime shows when they say, for example, they are chasing 1 I.C Male??
IC stands for identity code in law enforcement circles. There are six IC codes and it is a broad way of classifying the apparent ethnic/racial origin of a person. It used to be called RC for racial code but that was dropped for socio-political and scientific reasons. In the UK the codes are:





IC 1 of white European appearance





IC2 of dark skinned European / Mediterranean appearance





IC3 of Afro-Caribbean appearance. Formerly Black but the term was considered to be inappropriate.





IC4 of Asian appearance. Asian here being confined to India, Pakistan etc





IC5 of Oriental appearance





IC6 of Arab appearance





Properly used the codes are helpful in describing and recognising a person physical appearance. However just because a person is described as IC1 does not mean they are a white skinned European. They could be American or Australian for example.





In forensic science the codes are also used to give a tighter definition of blood group or DNA frequencies.
Reply:I think its some sort of " ID grading" scale. IC 1 is white/white: IC2 is not so white or some sort of mixed race person, and so on.

We no longer use that particular code (UK) and now have self defined ethnicity codes. This means that the person being dealt with defines their own ethnicity to the officer.

A9 – Any other Asian background





Black or Black British


B1 – Caribbean


B2 – African


B9 – Any other Black background





Mixed


M1 – White and Black Caribbean

O1 – Chinese


O9 – Any other ethnic group

Also if true then "C" wouldn't be for white. It would have to be something like Identifying Color? But then again it's TV so it's BS anyway.
